Alzheimer's disease (the most commonly diagnosed form of dementia) is expected to reach over 150 million cases worldwide by 2050. Alzheimer's represents 70% of dementia cases. Abnormal protein accumulation of amyloid-beta (plaque) and tau protein in the brain are two important mechanisms, apart from biophoton deficiencies, that cause the blockage of neuronal signaling and premature cell death (apoptosis) of nerve cells.
